A Double Covenant
.... Tracing the lineage of Jesus is a simple matter from the days of Abraham, down through the patriarchs, and onward to the time of David. And when David became king, he received the covenant that the Messiah would be born of his house:
.... "I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: ‘Your seed I will establish forever, and build up your throne to all generations.’"
(Psalm 89:3,4)
.... God promised to establish both the seed and the throne of David, a covenant of two parts. These are the lines that our genealogies will follow, separating for a time among David’s sons, yet coming together again in one person – Jesus Christ, when the fullness of the time had come (Amos 9:11).
